Digital Botany: Plant Generated Art

Digital Botany.jpg

Magical messages from the plant kingdom.

Who knew that plants could paint? Recent discoveries have identified plants have their own weird way to see, hear, communicate and play, and now they can doodle away! Sophi Gardner of Flow and Echo has innovated a system to allow plants to make digital art in real time!

Sensors on leaves monitor changes in the plant and this biodata determines the size, colour, opacity and direction of painted elements. Every 5 minutes the coded canvas resets and the plant begins a new painting. This allows viewers to see the natural fluctuations within plants going about their normal business such as photosynthesis, water exchange, absorbing CO2 and producing oxygen for us to breathe. We know there's a living world of magic in there and now we can televise it!

Come and enjoy this woven interplay between botanical life and digital art.
