Imagine Eating Better

Imagine Eating Better - Pam Warhurst.jpg

Imagine being able to enjoy a delicious, highly nutritious, diverse range of foods that were all grown near to where you live. And what if those foods were not only the healthiest option, but also helped wildlife to thrive, as well as regenerating some of the most unlikely forgotten places? Join us to hear from the leaders of our new food revolution and discover how eating better food has the power to transform our lives, our health and our surroundings.

With guest speakers Sheila Dillon, Pam Warhurst, Simon Crichton and Lopa Saxena.

Sheila Dillon

Sheila Dillon is a much loved food journalist who has worked on BBC Radio 4’s The Food Programme for 20 years - first as reporter, then producer and now presenter. Her investigative work has won many awards, with recent programmes on the chocolate industry, fishing practices and food prices carrying on the investigative tradition. She is also the creator of Radio 4's first interactive grocery show, Veg Talk. In January 2008 she was awarded an honorary doctorate by City University for her work, which "has changed the way in which we think about food."

Pam Warhurst

Pam Warhurst CBE has been an activist and advisor for over 40 years. Pam co-founded Incredible Edible, an initiative dedicated to growing food locally by planting on unused land throughout the community. Incredible Edible has spin-offs in the U.S. and Japan, counting over 600 groups world-wide. Incredible Edible empowers ordinary people to take control of their communities through active civic engagement, redefining prosperity through the power of small actions.

Simon Crichton

Simon Crichton leads the food, farming and trade team at Triodos bank. He supports a range of sustainable businesses, and specialises in financing the UK's organic market - from farmers, producers to retailers and restaurants. Simon and the Triodos team are helping their clients to work towards healthy soils, sustainable diets, balanced ecosystems and nutritious diets.

Dr Lopa Saxena

Dr Lopa Patnaik Saxena is a social scientist with a background in environmental economics and environmental management. She is currently a Research Fellow at the Centre for Agroecology, Water & Resilience in Coventry University (UK). In her current research, Lopa is focusing on how communities are self-organising in innovative ways to change the ways in which we think about food, how we produce and consume food and how we consider food waste as a resource or a problem. Her work centres on community-led initiatives and resilient food systems in the UK and in India. Currently, as a Trustee of Feeding Coventry, she is also actively engaged in supporting local food initiatives which promote well-being.
